25 Jan Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon: The most sustainable university in Mexico
Greenmetric places the UANL among the 100 most sustainable universities in the world.
According to the Global Ranking of Greeenmetric universities, posted on December 11, the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon ranks the position 89 of 616 universities distributed in 75 countries in total. In addition, such position gives the UANL the first place in Mexico in the field of sustainability.
The Greenmetric ranking evaluates important criteria for universities interested in sustainability. These criteria include basic information such as, university size, its area profile (urban, suburban, or rural) and the green spaces proportion. The next information category refers to electricity consumption due to its link to the carbon footprint. In addition, information regarding transportation, water use, waste management, infrastructure and settlements, energy and climate change and education is analyzed. The analysis of these indicators, is expected to have a scheme of how the university responds to sustainability through policies, actions and communication.
